This session brought together experts to discuss the complex relationship between environmental justice, blockchain technology, and energy use. They addressed misconceptions about Bitcoin’s environmental impact, highlighting that much of its energy consumption comes from renewable sources. The panel emphasized the importance of equity, ensuring marginalized communities—especially Black communities—benefit from sustainable energy developments. They also discussed how blockchain and Bitcoin mining can support renewable energy infrastructure and economic inclusion. Finally, they encouraged individuals to access reliable energy data and advocate for community-focused, equitable policies as technology evolves.
