In this session, Cleve Mesidor, Executive Director of Blockchain Foundation, emphasized the critical need for financial inclusion and equitable policy in the rapidly evolving Web3 and DeFi space. She highlighted that despite the growing crypto market, current legislation focuses mainly on consumer protection, neglecting capital formation and inclusion for Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities who are among the largest adopters. Cleve warned of an impending policy “reset” in 2025 with a new administration and stressed the importance of diverse communities becoming more visible and influential in policy discussions. She called for intentional advocacy to ensure legislation supports workforce development, entrepreneurship, fair exchange listings, and access to capital. Recognizing the dominance of large corporate blockchains and financial institutions, she urged the community to demand regulatory clarity that includes protections for emerging technologies while fostering opportunities for diverse leaders. Ultimately, she advocated for collective leadership and active engagement to shape an inclusive future for Web3 and DeFi that benefits all.
