Owning What We Build: 2026
Sep, 2026

The 9th Annual Black Blockchain Summit convened at Howard University on September 25–26, 2026, for two days of sessions on financial freedom, blockchain security, digital land rights, and community wealth. It spotlighted the shift from adopting technology to owning the infrastructure behind it; from mining and nodes to on-chain commerce.

Friday opened with a mix of virtual and in-person programming: panels on blockchain for liberation, reparations and programmable money, tokenising Black-owned property, and the new stablecoin landscape after the GENIUS Act. We had workshops: Bitcoin 101 for newcomers, economics myth-busting, and sessions on AI agents and digital forensics. The afternoon closed with the Blockchain & Web3 Startup Pitch Competition, followed by a welcome reception.

Saturday carried the same thread into the real world: Satoshi Is Black made the case for owning what we build, while sessions on Bitcoin mining, running blockchain nodes, and on-chain cooperatives pushed the idea of Black tech sovereignty; owning the rails, not just riding them. The student pitch competition took the stage in the afternoon with four finalists pitching to a live audience vote, and the summit closed with the winner announcements, awards, and a send-off.

Across both days, one current ran through every room: the tools are here, and the work now is ownership.
